My hotel was right across the street, so it was unavoidable. I could tell the food is good by the crowds that gather at lunch time. I had dinner there twice and breakfast once, while I was in Glasgow. I enjoyed the authentic Scottish meals and the friendly service.

The Oxford chippy is a hidden gem. If you walk up Sauchiehall Street, turn right at Dunnes Stores and walk past Renfrew Street, you will be find it.
The place was empty when we went in for a spot of lunch. They are closing for refurbishment soon but people must think that they are doing it now.
I had a fish supper and it was actually really good considering what it is. The staff were friendly too. The Diet Coke I had to drink was a bit weird though. Everything was written in foreign language and it was called "Coca-Cola Light". It tasted a bit more strong than normal DC too.
They gave us some bread and butter and peas on the house as we were the first customers they had seen all day, which was very nice of them.
I had a bit of difficulty getting into the bathroom. I thought it was locked but it was just a very stiff door. Once I managed to get in, it was pretty clean though.
I would return to the Oxford. It is (in my opinion) actually better than Blue Lagoon which is saying a lot. I am yet to try The Chippy Doon The Lane near Buchanan Galleries so watch this space until I go there. -

One of the little hidden treasures of Glasgow city centre, nestled off a side street in Cowcaddens, opposite the Travelodge and Easy Hotel, it's one of the best chippys you'll ever eat at. I always make a beeline for here if I'm peckish and in the area.
You can sit in at the tables provided in AND outdoors and munch on your superior food. It's all standard chippy fare, with the now Glasgow standard pizza crunch on the menu too. Prices are reasonable, although slightly dearer than the competitive Blue Lagoon chain of famous chippys dotted about the city.
For my money, and this is my review, so you'll have to put up with it - this is the best city centre chippy about. Sorry, Blue Lagoon, but them's the facts.
No idea why it's called The Oxford though! -

AHA! your open again. After closing down for what seemed like an age, this chippy has risen from the chip pan fryer grave to be reborn as a nice new shiny version of its old self.
Located on the edge of Garnet Hill and not a kick in the arse away form Sauchiehall street, The Oxford is a typical example of an old style fish and chips cafe. The interior has been nicely finished after its well overdue recent face lift, with an open plan shop replacing the previously divided takeaway and sitting areas.
Its nice. They have also made an attempt to capture some of the coffee culture crown with a big ol sign tempting us caffeine junkie with " Italian Coffee" sold here, or something along those lines. Worth a punt guys, but chips and coffee just don't really go that well together " Fish Supper and a low fat, hazelnut latte please.... " don't think so.
Anyway....good grub, nice chips, not to greasy and a pleasant clean wee cafe. Me likes!! -

If you want to make fish n chips, you could do worse than to start here. They have everything basic, but right:
Fish. Fried. Batter neither too thick or too thin, not greasy.
Chips: made from spuds. Thick. Absorbent to vinegar.
Tea: brick red builder's.
Bread: 1 slice ,white ,butter.
The guys come from behind the counter and chat about football, politics, and I'm not sure that else. Farsi? Urdu?
They've got a separate halal fryer, if that's important to you.
Cheap, literally, as chips: large fish supper under £6. Small 5 £4. Eat here.
